A. HRUSKA" Botanical Gardens GARDONE RIVIERA –
The gardens, owned since 1988 by the "Andrè Heller" Foundation (an Austrian playwright), are the setting for over 500 species of flora that come from every continent and climatic zone. This jewel owes its creation to the dentist and nature lover Prof. Arturo Hruska who came to Gardone in 1901 and who, encouraged by the favourable climate, from 1910 to 1971 gathered on the two hectares of land adjacent to the villa, various species, recreating the picturesque glimpses of the original countries of these plants. Thus we have several tropical aquatic plants that decorate traditional Japanese ponds, a thick forest of bamboo made up of canes of all sizes and alpine flowers in faithfully reproduced “rock-beds”, complete with gulleys and crevices. There are several ferns, including Osmunda Regalis, the royal fern, and flowers, the Primula of Tibet and the iris are truly beautiful, and of course the inevitable magnolie.

The green heritage of the Vittoriale covers an area of approximately nine hectares. These private gardens are laid out on four variously inspired terraces and contain both symbolic and commemorative monumets . valley of Mad waters and valley of Sage Waters are a naturalistic path of rare beauty descending towards Lake of Dances , an evocative landscape created by D'Annunzio.
